We have parties for children turning 4-12. For all children the base price includes 15 child participants. (Any child age 14 or younger is considered a participant.) We can accommodate up to 25 children for an additional fee per child.

What is the flow of the birthday party?

When your party guests arrive they’ll explore the exhibit space and start decorating a birthday banner for the birthday child.  When all the guests have arrived, they will be gathered into a circle to discuss the theme of the day. We’ll go through an educational activity and then dive head-first into a fun and engaging hands-on activity. After everyone washes up, we'll meet live animals. We then take an exciting hike down to the creek, led by our knowledgeable educators.  After the hike has concluded, the party guests will return to the museum to enjoy the birthday cake. The children are bound to go home tired and happy!

How do I schedule a party?

Complete the Birthday Party Registration Form and return it to us via e-mail, birthdayparties@livingclassroomsdc.org, or fax (202) 488-1307.

Alternatively, you can contact us at (202) 488-0627 ext. 242.

How do I confirm my party date?

After sending in your Birthday Party Registration Form we will confirm the date and time with you.  Feel free to call program bookings at 202 488-0627 ext. 242 or e-mail birthdays@livingclassroomsdc.org to confirm your event.

What is the inclement weather policy?

Our parties will take place rain or shine!  Children should be dressed appropriately for indoor and outdoor activities. Footwear is most important; make sure it is suitable for hikes!

How many educators teach the birthday party?

A minimum of 2 well-trained educators will be there to make sure your child’s birthday part is a great success!

What should I bring?

In addition to cake/cupcakes and drinks, please bring plates, napkins, utensils, cups, knife to cut the cake, matches, candles and goodie bags (if you wish). We cover our tables in butcher paper for children to decorate so a table cloth is not necessary. Decorations such as balloons, piñatas, or streamers are not permitted in accordance with National Park Service rules.

What if I want to bring food in addition to cake and drinks?

Additional foods such as snacks or pizza are not permitted by Glen Echo Park. We do not have freezer storage for ice cream or ice cream cake.

What if my child is afraid of the animals?

We believe in “challenge by choice,” if any of the guests do not want to meet an animal, they do not have to.  We can simply observe them in their enclosures or in the hands of our trained educators. Our animals are all very used to being around children.  We are very gentle with them and they are held by an educator at all times when outside their enclosures.

What if some parents are a bit wary about a drop-off party?

Your birthday party is being conducted by trained educators; as such parents are strongly encouraged to drop their child off. Parents of the birthday child must stay at the party and are responsible for supervising children once the party has concluded.

How would I reach Living Classrooms on the day of the party?

Call our Glen Echo location at (301) 263-9613, or the School House at (202) 345-4698.

What if I need to cancel my party?

Programs cancelled more than a month in advance of the event date are fully refundable.  Programs cancelled less than a month in advance of the event date will incur 50% of the cost.  Programs cancelled less than two weeks in advance of the event date will cost the full amount.
