Programs for Schools
The Living Classroom Foundation's interdisciplinary shipboard and land-based education programs emphasize hands-on, applied learning of academics, build critical thinking skills, teach teamwork, and enhance problem-solving abilities. All of our educational programs take place through real-world applications and authentic learning experiences. Hundreds of schools throughout the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area seeking innovative, alternative educational programs utilize Living Classrooms curricula to supplement their existing classroom lessons. Most importantly, our programs are fun and inspire students to learn!
Teachers: We offer several different types of programs to best fit your needs. Bring your students on a field trip to one of our educational sites: The Stables (in Glen Echo Park, Maryland), Kingman Island (NE Washington, D.C.), or the Historic School House (NW Washington, D.C.). Invite us into your school to run supplemental environmental programming, which also includes our popular Rolling Rainforest program. Or take your class on one of our Shipboard programs to learn about water quality and local aquatic ecosystems aboard our historic Chesapeake Bay Buy Boats, the Half Shell and the Mildred Belle.
