Outdoor Enthusiasts
(for youth 4-6 years of age)
Birthday Parties
(for youth 4-11 years of age)
Discovery Creek birthday parties are active ninety-minute programs that bring nature to life for children in a hands-on, intimate setting. Parties offer children turning ages 4 - 11 a unique informal setting where they can meet live animals, take a hike and play educational nature games that will entertain the entire party!
Party Themes
We provide a 90-minute program, led by a minimum of two educators. Each party includes meeting live animals, a guided hike, and educational games. Craft activities are available upon request. The following party themes are available at both the Stable at Glen Echo Park in Maryland or at the Historic Schoolhouse on MacArthur Boulevard in Northwest Washington, DC. Please note that weekend parties only take place at the Stable at Glen Echo Park from March to November. In other months they are available at our Historic Schoolhouse on MacArthur Blvd. in Washington, DC.
Wild Things: Children turning 4 - 6
Come have a wild time at Discovery Creek! Search for animal habitats in Discovery Creek's forest and become a "Wild Thing" as a classic children's story comes to life! The birthday child may choose three animals to meet from the Museum's on-site collection. Animals may include beautiful birds, radiant reptiles, outstanding amphibians, and memorable mammals.
Goin' Buggy!: Children turning 4 - 11
Don your antennae and put on your exoskeleton as you and your party guests fly, jump, and crawl into the world of insects! Go on a bug hunt in our Children's Garden, meet and greet some live crawly critters, and learn about the beneficial bugs in your backyard!
Camping Adventure: Children turning 6 - 11
For the birthday child who is truly outdoor bound! Hike along our trails with only a map, clues, and your wits to guide you on a camping scavenger hunt. Other activities include learning how to set up a campsite, picking out just the right kind of kindling to start your campfire, and meeting animals who always call the great outdoors home.
Science Safari: Children turning 7 - 11
Enter Discovery Creek's laboratory as we investigate the wild side of science! This birthday party will have you donning your geology garb as we build a volcano, create a crazy chemistry concoction, and learn how to be a bird as we figure out the fun of flying with physics. Other activities include meeting live animals or becoming a conservation scientist on Discovery Creek's hiking trails.
