K.I.D.S. After School Program
Beginning in the fall of 2006, Living Classrooms of the National Capital Region in partnership with Center City Consortium, 21st Century Community Learning Centers and DC Public Schools began a new and exciting after school program at two schools in Ward 8: St. Francis Xavier and St. Thomas More Catholic Schools.

The Kids Improving DC's Southside After School Program (K.I.D.S.) is open to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students who attend either Assumption or St. Thomas More in addition to DC public school students who live in nearby neighborhoods. The program takes place every day after school from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on site at the respective schools. Each day includes a healthy snack, recreation time, homework and tutoring assistance, and a one-hour thematic component designed to address the Center City Consortium power standards as well as the DC Public School benchmarks. Students continue to explore subject matter and topics covered in the regular school day through hands-on exploratory methods.
