The Nation’s River Bass Tournament is an annual celebration that benefits Living Classroom’s of the National Capital Region’s youth and conservation programs to connect underserved  and urban youth to their natural resources.  Funds raised through sponsorships will be used by Living Classrooms of the National Capital Region to support and expand existing educational programs using hands-on academic enrichment and workforce development programming on the Potomac and Anacostia Rivers.

On Wednesday, May 20, 2009, Living Classrooms of the National Capital Region and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service brought Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC local students by the bus loads to fish at National Harbor in the second annual Nation’s River Bass Tournament. More than 300 students participated in fishing on land and in bass boats, hands-on activities, exhibits, a FLW bass boat simulator, and boat rides on the Potomac River. One class worked with the Gaylord to create a pollinator garden . Acting Service Director Rowan Gould and Assistant Director Hannibal Bolton, the Honorary Chairman, fished in the competition with the youth and volunteer boat anglers.

Living Classrooms of the National Capital Region's

"A Night at the Yards" event featuring "The English Beat" on the Southeast Waterfront was a huge success on October 24th!

A Night at The Yards has now become one of the best events in town and we were fortunate to have a wonderful waterfront venue near our future new home at The Yards in partnership with Forest City Washington.  More than 400 guests enjoyed the more than 20 food and drink vendors and the live musical performances of Rita Rocks and The English Beat.

A Night at The Yards helped Living Classrooms raise important dollars to support our programs which provide hands-on education and job skills training programs for 20,000 youth and young adults annually in the National Capital Region. This event also celebrated the additions of Discovery Creek and City Kids as part of the Living Classrooms family serving youth in the Washington, D.C. area.
